FAQ
What does ‘sleep coaching’ involve?
‘Sleep coaching’ or ‘sleep training’ is a really broad term and can encompass so much. Sleep coaching with 360Sleep means spending time with you, talking through your aims and needs whilst taking a full history of your little one’s life. I don’t just look at the sleep situation. We’ll chat through your pregnancy, birth, feeding, medical concerns and your little one’s personality amongst other aspects. Together we’ll explore positive tweaks and changes that can be made to help your child (and you!) sleep better. You will not be TOLD to do anything. We’ll work out an approach that you’re comfortable with and excited to implement! The approach will vary dependent on your little one’s age and personal needs.
Something that sleep coaching with 360Sleep is NOT – shutting the door and leaving your baby to cry all night
Does Sleep Training Work?
Yes! I can personally vouch for sleep coaching working with my two children. Sleep is a natural process for humans, but babies and children sometimes need that support to put them in the best position to enable them to sleep fully and restoratively.
However, I can’t control how the plan is implemented so I need you to commit to our agreed plan to make it successful. In the very small minority of cases that I don’t see the expected progress and everything has been done consistently, we’ll explore other aspects. This might extend the process a bit but it’s really important to look at the whole situation 360, as I truly believe that if your baby is struggling with sleep then there is a reason for it, they don’t just have to be labelled as a ‘bad sleeper’.
Will I have to leave my baby to cry?
With any changes in a child’s routine or how they are helped to sleep, there is likely to be some short-term protest, but I will never push you to take an approach you are not comfortable with. We will talk through all aspects of you and your little one’s lives and how each of these areas can be affecting their sleep. And based on that, we will build a plan that you feel comfortable and confident with implementing. Might this involve your baby crying or shouting in protest? Yes, but the approach we take in responding to this will depend on whether you feel comfortable leaving them for short periods of time or whether you’d prefer to stay with them. At no point will you not be responding to your child’s needs.
How old does my child have to be?
I focus on working with children between 0 and 3 years. Even when they are still in the womb, we can talk about how you can set up great sleep habits for your little one when they arrive. Up to 4 months of age, we will focus on establishing feeding and lots of lovely newborn cuddles, but we can also make tweaks to your baby's 'awake windows' and their sleep environment. We can also introduce simple routines at any age to support sleep health. More extensive sleep coaching can be undertaken from 4 months.
What do I need to do?
Quite simply – book a consultation and then implement the plan consistently! Then be open with what you want from the process and what approach you feel comfortable with. It’s great if you can give me as much information as possible and be willing to trying different things.
Why do I need you?
If you’re reading this then I’m guessing you already feel like you need some sleep help. Imagine having your evenings back, not dreading naps or bedtimes, being able to get out and about and still feel confident about your little one’s sleep. Sounds great doesn’t it? Well it’s entirely possible.
So, why specifically 360Sleep? I will work with you and your family, in the boundaries that you define to achieve your aims in an open and supportive way. My support isn’t one size fits all, it’s bespoke to you and your family and considers your entire situation.
Do I need the Support package?
It totally depends on your circumstances. It may be that you have a feeling about how you want to change things, and the Empower package can give you that clarification and confidence to go ahead and implement the changes we discuss on your own.
Or maybe there are more things to tweak and consider and you would rather have me on the end of the phone to check-in with, discuss progress and be your biggest supporter! In which case, the Support package is definitely the one for you. For many people, that one-to-one support is invaluable to the success of the plan.
